I led a Tourin’ Tigers trip to the Netherlands and Belgium, and this is what happened

Updated: Jul 18, 2018

I recently had the pleasure of hosting 18 Tiger alumni and friends on a Tourin’ Tigers river cruise from Amsterdam to Antwerp (and a few other fabulous places along the way). And the best travel companion of all — Flat Truman came along too!

18 Mizzou alumni and friends, 8 days, 3 countries, 1 Flat Truman – what more could a Tiger ask for?

Day 1: Travel from CoMo to Amsterdam

I commonly joke it takes planes, trains and automobiles to travel anywhere from Columbia… and this trip was no exception. Following quite the travel day/night/day (it’s all running together), we touched down at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

They say a picture is worth 1,000 words. I hope these do justice to the wonderful sights and sounds of The Netherlands, Belgium, and the Tiger love felt throughout our trip!

And from there, the adventure began!

Day 2: Amsterdam (and the famous Keukenhof Gardens!)

The tulip gardens are only open 8 weeks a year, and WE got to go. Did I mention how much I love my job?

Day 3: Giethoorn & Kampen

A canal cruise tour of an adorable little town, Giethoorn! A bit different – Giethoorn doesn’t have any streets! Everyone has tiny boats they travel through town with. Can you imagine hauling your groceries this way?

Day 4: The Hague & Delft

We learned a lot about William of Orange and his impact on the history of the Netherlands, visited The Mauritshuis, and saw the Girl with the Pearl Earring.

We had a wonderful get together with all of the Mizzou friends and family on board this evening. What a good lookin' group! (If we do say so ourselves)

Day 5: Veere

We spent a leisurely day exploring the quaint little town of Veere (population 1,500), where Truman particularly liked the local candy shop.

Did Truman really go to the Netherlands if he didn't get a picture with a windmill?!

Truman also got in a bike ride and earned a post-ride beverage.

Day 6: And onto Belgium!

What better way to start our tour of Bruges? A brewery tour, of course! (Can you tell Flat Truman enjoyed this part of the trip?)

Day 7: Antwerp

We enjoyed the local architecture and learning about the city’s history. It was amazing to see old mixed with new and learn what survived the bombings of WWII.

After a wonderful week spent with Tiger friends and family, it was sadly time to say goodbye and travel back home.

But I’m thankful to say I have 18 new friends, who all love Mizzou just as much as I do.

Until we meet again during our next Tourin’ Tigers trip, I wish you all well!
